Senior Care Program
Chiang Mai is one step closer to having services for the aging in place. Along the Ping River, six kilometers south of the city, a new and modern facility will officially open at the McKean Rehabilitation Center. Located in the lush green environment for which McKean is renown, Dok Kaew Gardens will open its doors for 25 seniors in November 2009.
The concept behind the choice of name for the new facility - Dok Kaew Gardens -comes from ancient Thai tradition. In the past, the Thai people believed that the Orang Jessamine (Orang Jessamine) flower is a flower that brings happiness in life, purity in the heart and tranquility to people. In contemporary Thai language, Orang Jessamine (Orang Jessamine) translates as DOK KAEW.
Dok Kaew Gardens is made up of three inter-connected buildings: Lotus Wing, Jasmine Wing and Dok Kaew Center. Each residence is fully furnished with air conditioning and a private handicap accessible bathroom with hot water. The Lotus Wing offers tastefully decorated apartments overlooking a tranquil lotus pond. Emergency call lights located in all bedrooms and bathrooms can summon help 24 hours a day. Security cameras monitor common rooms and walkways. There are smoke alarms in every room to ensure fire safety for all.
Jasmine Wing offers specialized care for those needing increased assistance or the mobile senior with dementia. Entry and exit doors are secured. Staff numbers will reflect the increased demands of those residents that require 24 hour attention.
The Dok Kaew Center building will serve nutritious meals in a spacious dining area. This facility also includes living room areas, a beauty salon with a masseuse trained in traditional Thai massage and a library with a computer for internet use. Residents may also access the internet from any room with their own private computers through a wireless (WIFI) connection.
